Married to Shep Peskoff who lived at 133-11 225th St. I remember Laurelton being a wonderful place to grow up.

I have only the fondest memories of growing up in Laurelton. It was truly a "neighborhood" and we didn't need to make "play dates". My sister, Barbara Tabor ( Cohen) lives just up the road in Boynton Beach, which is where, ( now that we read the listings) she'll be on the lookout for Sherry Axelrod! I have also seen Larry Silversmith, Holly Malkin and of course my brother Jack Fox and his wife, Marilyn Shulman. Although Andrew Jackson scared me to death at first, it became a huge positive social and educational experience with too much to put here in words. I seem to have lost touch with all people from Laurelton. In 2001 we moved to Boca Raton, Florida where we currently reside. I loved living in Laurelton and rarely run into anyone from there. I used to live at 228-12 135 Ave, across from the Young Israel. I sadly read an obituary in the Los Angeles Jewish Journal for Dick, yesterday. I went to the website of the LA Jewish Journal but they have not posted this weeks issue yet. He went to AJHS and my sister Abby moved with my parents to Franklin Square in 1972. My name was Louise Greenhill and I have a brother named Bill. A beautiful place to live but I do miss my days in Laurelton.

As I write this I am waiting for my friend, Ivy Silverstsein (AJHS 1969.) to arrive in Boca for the holidays. They all attended my daughter's wedding 2 years ago. I have wonderful memories of just hanging out with whoever was around at night in the summer and safely walking around the neighborhood. My name is Barbara [Gebber] Fingeroth, currently living in Mahopac, NY. Taught Math and was a supervisor in NYC schools from 1965 to 1997. I married my wife Francine in 1970 and we lived in Forest Hills, Queens for six years and then moved to Syosset, Long Island where we lived for 27 years. I attended PS 176, Jr High School 59, and Jamaica High. I was just browsing the names and stories on the Laurelton website and came across Rabbi Dick Schachet. Does anyone remember Samuel's Cleaners, Charlies Bar, the LIRR tressle, the great bakeries on Merrick Road, the wonderful pizza and delicious food at Wong's Garden. If anyone remembers me (which I doubt because I was kinda invisible in those days) feel free to get in touch.

Graduated from Fordham University majoring in Business and Economics. Remember going to the Laurelton Theatre for the Saturday matinee for .25 cents & getting the card to see if you got in for free the following week. My family moved to Eastchester in 1958, so I missed going to Jackson or Far Rockaway. , Woolworth's, Bert & Dave's, the Depot, Library, and so many other places and things, I'm struck by how much this place was so important to us because we spent our childhoods there. I lived in Laurelton until the 9th grade and then moved to Rockville Centre. I remember House of Change, Laurelton Movies, The Riveria Italian Restarant, The Bagel Store, The Greasy Spoon Dinner, Sherry's Bakery (I worked there.) So many good memories of my childhood. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself. The boys had endless games of catch and stoop ball.I remember with fondness these friends from the Young Israel: Paula and Gary Katz, Ruthy & Phyllis Gluckman.Jerome & Barry & Phyllis Schwartz, Rena & Alan Jochnowitz, Eddie Parver, Mindy & Ephraim & Yossi Weinblatt, Stu and Lanny Billauer, Joey Mayerhoff, Lisa Benjamin, Danny & Ira & Philip Goldschmidt, Leslie Pearl, Chaim & Meyer Fisher, Esther Fried, Merrill Silverstein, Sally Rottenstreich, Doris & Michael Kreisler, the Breitbart girls, Marilyn & Kenny Povodator and more. My kids lived a half a mile and had to take the bus. I became a grandmother this year and fell in love again with sweet Julianna, my son, Eric's daughter. In 1975 I was transferred to San Francisco by my company and moved to Sonoma County in 1991. Our home was located directly across from PS 176 and my neighbors included, the Dawsons, the Whites, the Persons, Russells and the Filippis(on 238th Street behind us.)We had the best childhood ever and growing up in Cambria Heights/Laurelton was terrific and safe. I then moved to Valley Stream when I was 18..to believe I was ever 18. There was Alan Goldman "gompers", Mark Kessler "count" (Mark got the nick name "count" because he couldn't! We have been living in Dix Hills/Melville since 1974. Recently moved to Carbondale, CO, a short drive to magnificent skiing and summer music festival in Aspen. Still keep in touch with many who never graduated from PS 156 but transferred to JHS 59, and then went on to Jackson. After JHS 59 I went to M&A and lost touch with all my school friends (Madelyn Berman, Maxine Weinstein, Judi Schoenfeld, Margery Lesk, Frankie Fuchs, Jerry Solomon, Howie Polera). My wife of almost 24 years, Bea, and I live in Chester NY, but are in the process of downsizing and eventually looking to go south to the Vero Beach area. Though I last saw Jeff Goodman in 1986, aside from Jill (and on TV Barbie Seagal Nevins), I can't recall seeing anyone else since the 1984 mass Jackson reunion. Through this site, I hope to connect and share stories and memories of a different time in all of our lives and sense of community. Gosh I know I'm going to leave someone out but I haven't talked or seen Pam Morris, Joan Prussan, Gail Friedman etc (since a reunion mega years ago)and I miss you! Marty Rosenthal, Alan Nodelman (I did have dinner with you not too long ago,it was great but we lost touch again), Billy and Barry Rost. Jackson was great and we were all very involved in Sing-- Happy to hear from others. We both graduated from Queens College in 19 respectively. If anyone remembers me and would like to spend some time talking about the old days in Laurelton, just e-mail me. I am a CPA who teaches at a community college and is a force in local theater. Maybe even some of the girls I had crushes on (they shall remain nameless). I am a retired Bank Vice President still living on Long Island with my wonderful wife Marcia (married 37 years). I was one of those kids who kept pretty much to himself (ergo, I wasn't popular). My sisters, Susan and Ellen, are also graduates of Jackson. What a hoot, seeing so many names of so many "kids" I grew up with, seeing them in my mind's eye as they were then and thinking about so many more whose names I do not see and having it prompt so many memories of our "small town inside the big city". I retired as Associate General Counsel of Avis Budget Group at the end of 2008.
